About Erin Hills
After acquiring the property in 1999, and caring for the land until construction began on September 15, 2004...Erin Hills is entering the third full season.
Erin Hills is just golf. There are…no houses, tennis courts, swimming pools, spas or weddings. Just golf…tee it up and enjoy the experience.
Our goal at Erin Hills has always been to create a most unique golfing experience for you, which will hopefully be reflective of the Irish and Scottish links style golf courses. Erin Hills is a championship golf course for amateurs and professionals…statewide and national. Of most importance…Erin Hills is for you…a destination golf course.
Erin Hills has hosted the 2008 United States Golf Association’s Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, the first golf course to receive an official USGA Championship before opening day. We are appreciative and honored. In 2011, Erin Hills will host the U.S. Amateur. Our goal is to someday host the U.S. Open.
Mike Hurdzan, Dana Fry and Ron Whitten, the architects, found the best eighteen holes and linked them together…creating Erin Hills. We have enjoyed sharing Erin Hills with you these past three years.
Erin Hills is highlighted by natural terrain, undulated fairways, glacial dunes and a variety of greens…and…”oh, the wind”. Some signature oaks, maples, tamaraks and hickorys accent the terrain without inhibiting play or obstructing the all encompassing vistas. The star of Erin Hills is the contours and the grasses, which create a most links style experience.
Does Erin Hills have water? Each and every hole is encircled, lined or surrounded by a…”Sea of Fescue”. If you visit and play Erin Hills, you may become familiar with the “Sea of Fescue”…the ever blowing natural grasses lining each hole. The fescue is an integral part of the golfing experience...and the challenge.
Our goal is to protect the natural fescue grasses. As caretaker of Erin Hills, our Superintendent Zach Reineking, Director of Golf Kent Instefjord and the entire staff will respectfully request that you support us in keeping all golf cars and pull carts from entering the “Sea of Fescue” anywhere on the course.
Although Erin Hills is a daily fee golf course, we want you, our golfing guests…to be members for the day. We want you to enjoy the course and the surrounding environment. Take in the golf, the natural terrain, the sweeping vistas and the activity areas around the clubhouse including the two 1880’s outings and activities barns. We also offer ten antique furnished overnight guestrooms with private baths.
Erin Hills is not for everyone. As a daily member, we will ask you to share in the responsibility for making Erin Hills something unique for the golfing world. If you are looking for a pristine, manicured golf course…a carpeted modern clubhouse…house lined fairways…then Erin Hills is simply not for you. Erin Hills is a natural, challenging, rough and rugged link-style golfing experience.
We share with you a WARNING…and ask you to proceed with caution…Erin Hills is a most challenging golf course…extremely challenging. The key to enjoying Erin Hills is to…”Play the Proper Tees”.
My staff and I are honored that you are considering playing Erin Hills. Your interest, patience, support and understanding are appreciated.
